Tunas Bangsa Christian High School Gading Serpong Students Expand STEM Perspectives Through Participation in Science Festival Indonesia 2026, a Collaboration Between BRIN and Russia’s ROSATOM

GADING SERPONG — In an effort to foster students’ interest in research, broaden their global scientific perspectives, and facilitate the exploration of academic potential, Tunas Bangsa Christian High School Gading Serpong sent student representatives to attend the Science Festival Indonesia 2026. The prestigious event, held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Graha Widya Bhakti Auditorium, B.J. Habibie Science and Technology Area (KST), BRIN, South Tangerang, was organized through a collaboration between the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Russia’s ROSATOM.

A total of six students from Tunas Bangsa Christian High School Gading Serpong, accompanied by a teacher, had the opportunity to participate in a series of interactive and educational science sessions.

Exploring Space Science and Nuclear Technology Applications

The event began with a sharing session featuring Nikolai Tikhonov, a Russian cosmonaut. During the session, Tikhonov inspired participants by sharing his journey from being a high school student to becoming a cosmonaut serving at a space station. Students listened enthusiastically to his presentation, which was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session.

The students’ enthusiasm continued during a visit to the BRIN research exhibition area. The exhibition featured four main presentation booths:

  • Nuclear Power Plant
  • Radioisotopes and Radiopharmaceuticals
  • Nuclear Applications for Crop Preservation
  • Nuclear Safety, Regulations, and Public Education

Through this visit, students had the opportunity to observe various laboratory instruments, technology prototypes, and simulators presented directly by BRIN researchers.

As the closing session, participants listened to inspiring stories from two Indonesian students who had joined the ROSATOM Icebreaker of Knowledge Expedition. They shared their unique experience of exploring the Arctic aboard a nuclear-powered icebreaker that departed from Moscow, Russia, as part of an international expedition involving participants from 21 countries.

A Valuable Experience That Broadens Students’ Horizons

This meaningful experience left a strong impression on the participating students.

“Participating in Science Festival Indonesia was an exciting and enriching experience. The event not only featured seminars on the benefits and safety of nuclear technology, but also workshops, question-and-answer sessions, and direct interviews with experts in their respective fields, including Cosmonaut Nikolai Tikhonov. It made us even more interested in exploring science and technology,” said Clarissa Annabella Christiani, one of the student representatives from Tunas Bangsa Christian High School Gading Serpong.

The positive impact of the event was also felt by the accompanying teacher. Yemima Kurnia, S.Si, a teacher at Tunas Bangsa Christian High School Gading Serpong, shared:

“This experience greatly broadened students’ horizons through learning and knowledge exchange with experts from BRIN, ROSATOM, and fellow students from various backgrounds.”
